Well it's been a bit of time since my last update. I've been extremely busy with commissions, and haven't been able to share much of it since I'm under NDAs. But, a little bit of a respite this week, so I decided to finally finish the ship interior I was working on earlier this year and upload it to the various storefronts.
I give you the Spaceship Interior C HD!

Nem Gate Work
More work on the indie film Nem Gate. This has been an extremely challenging set. It needs to fit inside an existing building, and it has a large number of components. It is seen both from the perspective of a small control room (previously modelled) and from outside, as well and must connect to the outside of the building for a couple of shots.
Add to all this the usual challenges of designing the aesthetics of the concept, and you get an interesting challenge, that's for sure. We're finally getting somewhere, but it is still very much in a messy work-in-progress state, I'm afraid. So please keep that in mind.
It's unlikely that the exterior will be so brightly lit, but I figured I'd load in some detail just in case we've got some close-up shots here and there that'll need something in the background.
Hope you're all having a good day.

And this the control room set built earlier that connects to this hangar.

Hope you're all having a good day.

Sci-fi Interior Contest Part One Finished
Finished the first part of my contest entry. Will upload the corridor to the contest site tomorrow, I think.
Next up will be the captain's quarters to this fictitious alien capital ship.

Sci-fi Apartment Update
I find there can be a certain beauty in science fiction art. The greebly bits and the techy lines and glowy lights--sometimes it all conspires together without the artist's implicit consent to create something special. I don't know where it comes from.
It's good when it happens, though.

3D Spaceport Model Day Three
Work continues. Got a lot done on the crawler today. Gotta think up a name for 'er. She's a rather cute gal, and I'm falling in love. Perhaps a contest to see who can come up with the best name for the crawler is in order? :D
Still got a lot of work to do on it, though.
PS: Yes, the tracks DO work and are able to be animated correctly. Thanks to the tutorial by Greg Zaal. Shout out to Greg for his awesome tute on that front. Linky.
And I got a little done on the space port itself. Making preparations for the large doorway, complete with huge doors. Need a great design idea for them. Trawling the 'web for ideas on that front. After that, we're onto the inside and finishing up detailing the grounds outside. Probably going to put up a few defenses, like laser turrets or shield generators or something, along with the obligatory science fiction shipping crates (they probably explode when shot). We'll see how those turn out.
Request was made to show how I make the lines on the geometry. I'll try my best to get a tute up next week, as I will have the whole house to myself during that time, depending on how much time I get between the two clients I'll be working for that week.
Have a safe weekend, everyone.

3D Spaceport Model Day Two
3D Space Port Model
Decided to build a spaceport to house all of these spaceships I've been working on. Poor things never get a chance to sit and refuel.

"Yep, it does fit..."
One of the questions I get asked the most is: "Do your interiors actually fit inside your ship exteriors?" The answer is always, "Yep, it does fit." No weird MMO-style it's-bigger-on-the-inside stuff. I am nevertheless a Doctor Who fan, mind you.
What the current set looks like without the ship around it. We're nearing the end of the architectural modelling phase here. Next, we're into the detailing phase, where we add props, furnishings and other stuff. Then materials and we're done.
What the chunk of rooms looks like inside the ship, and what space is taken up.
What each section is, by color, with future additions pointed out, as well.
Rendering up a video walk-through overnight. Hopefully I get to work tomorrow instead of watching the computer render.
